Why we're here

On Halloween 2024, I was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a fatal, incurable nervous system disease that will gradually rob me of all voluntary muscle control. Years before then, the kernel of this blog was being incubated in my mind, evolving in its purpose, place, and form. Now, it is born.

The Backseat Philosopher is my personal expression of internal dialogues, emotional outbursts, and attempts at humor... trying to make sense of existence from my point of view and collection of experiences. I am not a classically trained philosopher... hence the "backseat driver" reference. Some posts will be long form, some social media-esque blurbs... imperfect at best, blathering idiocy at worst. At this point, I find a need to pull all this crap out of my head and put it in legible form, not promising if it will amuse or infuriate you... frankly, I don't give a fuck as I have so few fucks to give anymore.

So welcome and buckle up. Maybe it'll be a magic carpet ride... or me screaming at the Tesla FSD from the backseat as we jump the guardrails and careen across 6 lanes of oncoming interstate traffic before plunging to death off a cliff into the sea on the other side (yes, I've had that dream... and no, I don't own a Tesla, nor ever willingly plan to buy or ride in one).
